Getting great SEO Placement takes some time and patience. But if you spend the time you will get the results you're looking for. Google gives your site brownie points when it notices that a website has a variety of links coming from different sources. Most people give up because they aren't willing to take the time and effort to do this. But if you do, your Small Online Business has the potential of reaping the rewards afterwards.
1.) Write one article per day for the next 90 days. After you do this submit it to the main article directories. However only do this to the Article Archives that don't require that the articles be unique to that particular directory. Also write some single articles and only submit them to these directories. The key here is you want to diversify your Article Submission Tactics and make sure you get in as many archives as possible.
2.) Go out and find a good reliable Directory Submission Service and use them. You can find places out there that will submit your website to 700 Directories for about $50.00. But don't just do a search and pick the first one you can find in the SERPS. Chances are if you do this you'll get ripped off. Peruse the SEO Forums and find out what services give confirmation emails and which have been working for others. Do your research before you commit. Money is hard to come by and you want to make sure that every nickel you spend goes to good use.
3.) Go out and Submit a Press Release. Make sure the Keyword you want to rank for is in your Anchor Text. We use PR Web and they allow 4 links, so pick your top 4 Keywords you want to rank for and go for it. Tons of websites pick up Press Releases and Yahoo indexes these as well, so they have great Search Engine Ranking benefits. You can submit a Press Release for about $200.00. I wouldn't recommend adding all the frills. I'd just do a standard release and call it a day.
4.) Create a Screen Capture Video and submit it to all of the Video Sites. I'd pick the top 20 or so and go with these. Make sure your entire URL is at the forefront of your description so Google will end up spidering it. Actually you don't need to create a Screen Capture Video, you can create any type of video you want and it will work the same way. Google will give importance to your Website if it can spider the entire URL.
5.) Request to become a Guest Writer on high ranking blogs in your niche. This isn't as hard of a technique as it may sound. In fact, if you offer to write a unique content post for someone elses blog, there's a good chance they will say yes. Serious bloggers understand that unique content is like gold, and most would be tickled pink if they could get more unique content on their blog without having to write it themselves or pay for it.
6.) Become an active participant in forums directly related to the Niche you are in the process of promoting online. Create a small sig file with a link back to your website. You will generate a lot of very targeted traffic this way. Make sure you blend in with the community though and don't just use the forum to talk about your services. You should spend some time adding value to the forum and answer other peoples questions and make some friends.
There's different schools of thought whether you should just stick with one niche or build websites around a lot of different niches. There's no right or wrong answer, but I'm finally starting to find out that it you stick with one sustainable high profit system built around just one niche that you can control (this is important), and you put all your effort into this one area, your profits should start soaring.
But if you're just writing articles and doing all the free stuff it could take 6-9 months to start seeing decent results. This is still a great way to go since it's only a matter of time before the rewards start kicking in. And if you have a lot of time and little money to invest, writing articles IMHO is a must.
All things being equal I'd concentrate on SEO. Sure it takes longer but I'm a firm believer in working hard for what you get and reaping the long term benefits later after I've put in the work. In the end its really your call but your SEO Placement will increase dramatically if you just follow the steps above.
